From Wednesday 11th of March, the way you download Ebook Central ebooks for offline reading is changing. The Ebook Central Reader app will replace Adobe Digital Editions for downloading ebooks to read offline.
From Wednesday the 11th of March you need to download the app and link it to your Ebook Central account to get registered. If you’ve already got ebooks on loan in Adobe Digital Editions, don’t worry – they’ll transfer automatically into the new app – so you can continue reading, without interruption. Please note: it won’t be possible to download the new app before 10.30am on the 11th March.
Watch this short video or consult this Quick Start PDF Guide for guidance on how to download the new app and to discover some of its key features.
Installing and registering the Ebook Central Reader app on personal devices
The new Ebook Central Reader app is available to download through the Ebook Central website for laptops and other Windows devices, from the App Store on iOS devices, and Google Play on Android devices.
You will need to log into Ebook Central using your institutional account in order to get your authentication code to register your downloaded app.
Once you have registered and downloaded the app, any Ebook Central ebooks you currently have downloaded into Adobe Digital Editions to read offline, will move over to the Ebook Central app. These titles will also remain available in Adobe Digital Editions until they expire.
Key features
Multi-device support: Want to read across multiple devices? No problem. Just request a new registration code for each device you add. At present it is not possible to synch ‘last page read’ across devices.
Accessibility built-in: The app supports text resizing, zooming, and follows contrast guidelines for readability. It also includes in-book search, a linked table of contents, bookmarking, DRM-controlled text copying, and accessible authentication.
Offline reading only: You’ll need the app to download whole books for offline use. This change doesn’t affect reading online or downloading individual chapters as PDFs.
